Privacy

What happens to your files and your data when you use Open Mail Viewer.

Your files

Your browser reads the emails you open, right there on your computer. They are not uploaded to any server: I don't see them, I don't keep them and I can't recover them. When you close the file or the tab, your browser clears what it read from memory.

Attachments are saved on your computer only when you click "Download".

If an email has images or other content from the internet, I block it. If you click "Load internet content", your browser requests it from the servers where that content lives, which usually belong to whoever sent the email. They can see your IP address and learn that you opened the email. That connection doesn't go through me and I don't log it.

What this page stores

I don't use cookies.

In your browser's local storage (localStorage) I keep only your preferences: the theme, the language, the text size and the two background settings. Nothing from your emails.

Your browser also keeps the page's files (styles, scripts, fonts and backgrounds) in its cache so it loads faster.

You can clear all of this in your browser settings, under this site's data.

The Windows app

The desktop app reads your emails where they are, on your computer, and doesn't copy them anywhere. It doesn't send anything of yours to the internet: it only goes online if you load an email's internet content or open a link.

For the window it uses Microsoft Edge (or Google Chrome) with a separate profile, in %LOCALAPPDATA%\OpenMailViewer. That's where your preferences and the page cache go, nothing from your emails. Sync with your Microsoft account stays off. Edge may connect to Microsoft on its own, for example to update itself, and Microsoft's privacy policy covers that.

Third-party services

The page is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. As with any site, Cloudflare receives technical data from each visit, such as your IP address, your browser and the page you request, and handles it under its own privacy policy.

To count visits I use Cloudflare Web Analytics. It counts which pages are visited, from which country, with which browser and how long they take to load, without cookies and without identifying anyone. It receives nothing from your emails.

The links to zedran.xyz, Discord and Ko-fi go to other sites, each with its own policy.

If you write to me

If you write to me on Discord or by email (Kierc117@hotmail.com) to report a problem, I get your username or your email address, and whatever you send. I use it only to answer you and fix the problem.

I will never ask for your emails or your files, so please don't send them.

I delete the conversation 90 days after the problem is solved, or sooner if you ask. If you write to me on Discord, its privacy policy also applies.

Children

Anyone can use the tool without giving any data. If you are under 13, don't write to me without your mom, your dad or whoever looks after you. If you do write, I'll answer once and delete the message.
